There will be teams of Easter bunnies running around Jersey on Wednesday 9th April as choccy egg treats are delivered to various schools and nurseries ahead of the Easter break – and it’s all for charity.
Last year Pete Wright, Chief Financial Officer at GoldMoney, ran the toughest foot race on earth, the Marathon de Sables and as part of his training and fundraising, he decided to run around the island delivering chocolate eggs to raise funds for the Grace Crocker Family support Foundation. He raised £2,750 last year, after being sponsored by his employer, GoldMoney. This year Pete is again being sponsored by GoldMoney, and is being joined on the Bunny run by friends and supporters. Three teams of two runners will visit nearly a dozen schools and nurseries.
Grace Crocker was born in Jersey with hypo-plastic left heart syndrome and had open heart surgery at just five days old. Grace’s family had to move to Southampton for three months to be with her, but sadly Grace died aged just 11 weeks. The charity aims to help other families who have to go off island when a child is seriously ill, and gives financial and emotional assistance.
Pete said he and his wife decided to carry on the Bunny run after meeting Grace’s father: ‘We listened to the heart breaking story of what happened to Grace, and how her family wanted to do something positive to remember her, and decided we had to help. Last year we had a brilliant day meeting the children and delivering the eggs and the feedback was so good that we decided to make it an annual event. This year we’ve already had a generous donation from FCJ school so we hope to beat last year’s total.’
Geoff Turk, Chief Executive Officer, GoldMoney said the company is pleased to be supporting the Bunny run for a second year: ‘Losing a child is something no parent wants to contemplate, but if you have added stress through having to finance a stay away from home then that can only make things worse. Pete’s fundraising idea is a fun way to help this very worthwhile charity and GoldMoney is delighted to be able to contribute.’
