TWO Barclays employees have won awards at this year’s STEP Jersey Annual Student Awards.
Jacinthe Bilodeau, a trust administrator in Barclays Wealth Advisory, received the STEP Jersey student award for ‘Top Student’ and Steve Shipp, from the Debt Advisory Team at Barclays, received the ‘Trust Administration & Accounts’ award.
The awards are presented to local students gaining the highest marks in the five STEP Diploma categories: Trust Creation Law & Practice, Company Law & Practice, Trust Administration & Accounts, Trust Investment & Financial Appraisal and the STEP Certificate. The student who gains top marks out of all five categories is awarded the ‘Top Student’ award.
This is the second year that Ms Bilodeau has received the ‘Top Student’ award, having achieved outstanding results for the STEP certificate qualification. She achieved a distinction in all five diploma categories, gaining her highest mark in Trust Administration and Accounts.
“I decided to undertake the qualification to develop my technical knowledge in trust and company administration having joined Barclays in February 2008 with no prior experience in the trust or banking industry,” said Ms Bilodeau.
“STEP is a well-recognised qualification in the industry and the preferred qualification among my peers. The contents of the diploma met all my requirements in terms of the technical knowledge I was seeking, and the format of study gave me the flexibility I required.
“My STEP qualification has enabled me to implement and enhance the practical skills I learned in my role at Barclays and has given me confidence to tackle more complex matters and grow in my role generally.”
Mr Shipp achieved a distinction in his Accounts and Trust Administration exam, which he took in April this year. He has now completed the certificate and four diploma papers, receiving a distinction for every exam and graduating with a distinction overall.
“I moved to Jersey in 2009 to work in the banking sector and decided to work towards the STEP qualification soon after, to increase my understanding of trusts and trust companies as they are such an important part of the finance industry in the island,” said Mr Shipp.
“I have no direct experience of working in trust but part of my role does involve liaising with trust companies and other intermediaries, so the qualifications have certainly been of great benefit to my understanding of Barclays’ clients.
Barclays managing director, Paul Savery, said: “The results both Jacinthe and Steve have achieved throughout their STEP Diploma qualifications are outstanding.
“A huge amount of time and effort is required to undertake this qualification and it is obvious that Jacinthe and Steve have excelled. They both fully deserve the recognition they have received by winning these awards.”
The awards were presented at a dinner held last week at the Pomme D’Or Hotel.
