Twice the fun at this year’s Portuguese Food Fair
The Airtel-Vodafone Portuguese Food Fair returns in August, and thanks to its new location at the Waterfront this year’s event is expected to be – literally – twice the size. Event co-organiser Deputy Richard Rondel said: ‘With help from the Parish of St Helier and other members of our new organising committee, we’re relocating to the Waterfront this year, which gives us space for nearly twice as many food and drinks stalls as last year. As well as all the favourite delicacies from Madeira and mainland Portugal, there will be music and family entertainment, including fairground rides and attractions. We’ll also be bringing some well-known Portuguese musicians and performers to the stage. There has even been interest from a Portuguese TV company to come and cover the excitement.’ Co-organiser Debbie De Sousa said: ‘The official twinning of Funchal and St Helier took place in April and all the activity has brought a real buzz to the preparations for this year’s food festival. Thanks to support from so many local businesses and organisations we are going to be honouring the new agreement in true style.’ The vice-president of Airtel-Vodafone, Ian Campbell, said: ‘We are delighted to be adding our support to a festival that celebrates one of Jersey’s largest and most vibrant communities. Airtel-Vodafone’s global reach makes it the perfect partner to help bring the international flavours of the Portuguese Food Fair to Jersey palates.’ The fair will be free to enter and opens on Thursday 23rd August at 6.00pm. It then runs daily between 12 noon and 11pm (10pm on Sunday) until the evening of the Bank Holiday Monday, 27th August.
