Treasury Minister meets UK Chancellor in Japan
The Treasury and Resources Minister, Senator Philip Ozouf, attended a meeting with the UK Chancellor, the Rt Hon George Osborne MP, in Tokyo yesterday (11 October 2012).
Senator Ozouf is currently at the world’s largest gathering of finance ministers in the Japanese capital, where the Commonwealth, IMF and World Bank conferences are taking place. He discussed matters of mutual interest with the Chancellor during the meeting. Discussions covered a range of topics, including Jersey’s value to the UK economy through the liquidity that it upstreams to the City of London.
Senator Ozouf commented: “Amongst other meetings with IMF member country Finance Ministries, discussions with George Osborne were especially useful. During half an hour of wide ranging talks, the Chancellor and I covered topical issues including: the recent comments by the Deputy Prime Minster about the importance of Jersey as a liquidity centre to the UK; the importance of the UK and Jersey working together to secure economic growth and therefore jobs in the UK and Jersey; evolving international standards, as well as the recent IMF reports on the global economic outlook.”
