Two new apprenticeship programmes are being launched at Trackers – The Apprentice Programme’s information drop-in at Jersey Arts Centre on Saturday 1 March from 5 – 7 pm.
The new programmes are:
- A one-year Foundation Programme for 16 – 18 year olds which equips them with customer service skills and qualifications sought by local employers. It includes the ASDAN Community Volunteering Qualification (Level 2), the Prince’s Trust XL Certificate (personal development and employability skills), a Customer Service Level 2 qualification and a customer service work experience placement.
- A hospitality management programme for 16 – 18 year-olds. ‘Journey to Hospitality Management’ is a joint initiative with Highlands College and the Jersey Hospitality Association. It consists of one year’s full-time training, followed by paid employment in year two, leading to a junior management role in year four. It also offers apprentices the opportunity to spend three months gaining work experience abroad.
Tomorrow’s event marks the start of Trackers’ three-week recruitment period for apprenticeships starting in summer 2014 and is an opportunity to talk to current apprentices, employers and Trackers mentors.
Programme Manager Penny Shurmer said: “The Trackers model is based on the apprentice, employer and mentor working together to achieve positive outcomes for everyone, so this is a great chance to speak to all three parties who can tell you first hand what it’s like to work with Trackers.
“We look for motivated individuals who are committed to working hard, both in their place of employment and at their academic studies. Since launching in December 2012, 100% of our apprentices successfully completed their first year, a figure that demonstrates the quality and dedication of everyone involved with the programme.”
Employers who would like to work with Trackers are invited to attend the information event and meet both the Trackers team and other employers who are currently engaged with the programme.
Application forms for apprentices and employers can be found at www.gov.je/trackers. The deadline for applications is 5 pm on Thursday 20 March 2014.
Representatives from Careers Jersey, the Youth Service and Skills Jersey will also be at the event to offer information, advice and guidance.
