Following twelve months of development work, today sees the launch of an improved, responsive website for Jersey’s Atlantic Hotel, making the luxury establishment one of the very first hotels in Europe to truly embrace the latest responsive technology.
Designed and developed by local agency Switch Digital the enhanced www.theatlantichotel.com website has been designed to be mobile and tablet-friendly in order to meet the growing demands of today’s digitally savvy consumer. The development of the site is testament to the quality of on island service providers and the burgeoning local digital sector.
Commenting on the site which now forms the core of The Atlantic’s digital marketing strategy, owner Patrick Burke said; “We have made a substantial investment into the new website, which now enables us to provide a more proactive service to our customers and prospective guests with the use of tools such as Facebook, Twitter and TripAdvisor. We would particularly like to thank Jersey Tourism as we now have the ability to stream their event information directly onto our site, meaning that the content is always current.
“We are pleased to be pioneering the use of responsive technology which we know is particularly important in the hotel and restaurant sector, as there is a trend for more customers to make their purchasing decisions from mobile devices such as iPads and smart phones.
“We are fortunate to enjoy a privileged position on the west coast of the Island overlooking St Ouen’s Bay and the new website features an interactive ‘View Like No Other’ map showcasing our unique location and some of the great outdoor activities that take place on our doorstep.”
Another useful addition to the new site is the ability for visitors to book their travel and accommodation in one package through a partnership with Channel Islands Travel Group.
From a functionality perspective other enhancements include an improved online accommodation booking engine offering more choice and information as well as an online restaurant booking system making it simple and straightforward to reserve a table at the hotel’s Michelin-starred Ocean Restaurant. The new design also makes better use of the Atlantic’s stunning photographic library offering a truer reflection of the hotel’s design aesthetic than previously.
Operated on a Content Management System (CMS), the hotel can instantly update the site, keeping it fresh, informative and relevant. The CMS platform upon which it is built will be constantly developed as technology evolves providing an element of ‘future proofing’ to the site.
Discussing the project Managing Director of Switch Digital Damon Eastwood said, “We were particularly pleased to work on this prestigious project as previously a UK agency held the account. The design is an evolution of the old site, so to existing customers it will be comfortably familiar, however there is a host of additional functionality. Due to the responsive design it is much more accessible and the information on the site is more up-to-date. The use of tools such as Google Earth and Google Streetview will give a better context to the unique world-class location of the hotel.”
