Residents of Field View are enjoying a new television experience this Christmas thanks to JT’s donation of the new YouView subscription-free TV service.
Field View was opened in October 2012 to provide accommodation for teenagers looked after in Jersey, and the building has been designed to give more of a bed-sit feel to encourage the teenagers who live there to have an experience of independent living.
Exclusively available in the Channel Islands from JT, YouView offers seven day catch-up from BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4oD and Demand 5 as well as a library of on demand television programmes, films and radio. It also has all local free to air digital channels, including HD and additional content available from Now TV powered by Sky and milkshake! It also has record, pause and rewind TV functionality as well as a simple search feature.
Ornellia Matthews, Project Lead of Field View, said: “We are very grateful to JT for providing us with the YouView service which has definitely changed the way we watch our shared television in the main lounge. Although we have a TV in each room we do like to watch TV together sometimes. Being able to catch up on programmes we’ve missed or recording something to watch later is really good for all of us who have very different television watching habits, plus it gives us a reason to all get together and socialise.”
Dominic Vye, Head of Commercial Development at JT, said: “We have introduced YouView as a cost effective alternative to subscription based TV services and as an enhancement to existing free-to-air TV. It is a pleasure to be able to provide the recently opened Field View with a YouView box as we know it will be put to good use and also give the residents a chance to make the most of Christmas television.”
YouView is made available through a set-top box which is connected to an existing digital TV aerial and a broadband internet service. A YouView set-top box is available from JT either free, with selected JT broadband home packages or to purchase for a one off price. Unlike other locally available hybrid/internet or satellite TV services, YouView is truly subscription-free to all. There is also a YouView Remote Record app available for Apple devices that allows you to see what’s on over the next seven days, but also allows you to record your favourite programmes when you’re away from home.
