Michelin starred chef Richard Allen, executive head chef at Grand Jersey’s Tassili, has been invited to take over a Belfast restaurant as part of Belfast Restaurant Week.
Richard has been given carte blanche to create a menu for 40 diners who will each pay £100 for the experience at The Barking Dog restaurant on October 7th.
The Barking Dog’s head chef Michael O’Connor and chef Gavin Bradley will fly over to Jersey on September 17th to learn Richard’s techniques and menu so they can support him during the take over.
Belfast Restaurant Week runs from Friday 5th October to Saturday 12th October and the local council has organised a number of events including a masquerade ball at City Hall and 20 mini pop-up restaurants will appear outside the hall during the week. Local restaurants have also been coming up with their own unique ideas.
Tony O’Neill, director of Thornyhill Restaurants which owns The Barking Dog, commented: ‘I fell in love with Richard’s cooking when I visited Jersey and try to go back every year. When we had the idea of a guest takeover at the Dog, Richard’s was the first name to come up. Our chefs are very much looking forward to the opportunity to work with Richard and we are all eagerly anticipating his food creations.’
Richard Allen added: ‘To be involved with Belfast Restaurant Week is an excellent opportunity and I’m flattered to have been asked to guest chef. I have been busy planning my menu and am looking forward to working with Michael and Gavin in The Barking Dog’s kitchen to prepare a memorable meal for diners.’
