The following statement has been issued by the Acting Chief Minister, Senator Ian Le Marquand:

“Last year this Island, and particularly our Polish Community, suffered tragic events which both shocked and saddened us all. Although the trail has now concluded, the sense of shock and sadness remains.

I would like to express my sympathy to the relatives and friends of those directly involved and to witnesses to these events for all of whom the trial will have been a difficult time.

I also want to thank again all those who responded to this incident. It is not easy to have to deal with such matters and I am very proud of the way in which our staff in the emergency services and at the hospital as well as the honorary police responded and dealt with matters most professionally and sensitively.

Despite this tragedy, Jersey remains a very safe and supportive community, where such events are thankfully rare indeed, and of which I am proud to be a part.”
