Rossborough’s Becky Compton was awarded the Insurance Institute of Jersey Young Achiever of the Year accolade at the annual dinner at the Royal Yacht Hotel on Friday 27th September. Rachel Evans, 24, also from Rossborough, was the runner up in the category.
The judging panel comprised Katherine Pawsey, Insurance Institute of Jersey president, deputy president Lee Ingram and Stuart Baker, from DAS which has sponsored the award. The panel praised Miss Compton, 25, for her career development in a short space of time.
On winning the award, the first time it has been presented in Jersey, Miss Compton said, ‘I was shocked when I was announced as the winner but delighted to be recognised for my hard work. Since joining Rossborough I have really been supported by colleagues and given an excellent opportunity to develop my skills and career. It was particularly nice to be shortlisted alongside Rachel and for two Rossborough employees to be shortlisted in the Young Achiever category highlights the company’s commitment to investing in and developing young talent in the island.’
Rob Hewlett, Director of Rossborough Insurance Jersey, commented, ‘Becky thoroughly deserves this endorsement of her dedication and enthusiasm over the past two years. She has worked hard to become a highly valued and respected member of the underwriting team and is a fine example of what can be achieved with a strong work ethic. Congratulations also go to Rachel who has demonstrated first-class client handling skills and was praised by the judges for her outstanding achievements.
‘As the only Chartered Insurance Broker in the island, Rossborough is committed to raising standards of knowledge, professionalism and ethical practice. It is always a pleasure to nurture young talent and I am sure Rachel and Becky will continue to build successful careers in the insurance industry.’
Katherine Pawsey, added: ‘The panel of judges selected Becky as the winner of the inaugural Young Achievers Award to recognise her development within the insurance industry in a short space of time. This included her completing her Cert CII qualification in a short period of time, having had no previous insurance experience, as well as being responsible for implementing a new audit process within her company.’
At the award ceremony, another Rossborough colleague Richard Boddy was awarded his Advanced Diploma – the industry standard professional qualification.
Miss Compton joined Rossborough as a personal insurance broker in November 2011 but moved to the underwriting team as an underwriting assistant in February 2013. Having joined with no insurance experience, Miss Compton demonstrated a natural ability and has already completed her Certificate in Insurance qualification. Since moving to the underwriting team, Miss Compton has been instrumental in developing a company-wide audit process.
Miss Evans joined Rossborough as a personal insurance broker in November 2011 and was one of two members of staff employed from 200 applicants after the introduction of assessment-based recruitment. During her probation, she demonstrated real potential and as well as studying for her insurance qualifications she has recently been given shared responsibility for developing and delivering a group-wide personal insurance training programme.
The Insurance Institute of Jersey introduced the Young Achiever of the Year Award after it was suggested by a council member who had seen the award presented in the UK.
