Since its commencement in January, over 150 school children have participated in the 2014 Rathbones Spring Term Cricket Courses, which are again providing fantastic opportunities for a large number of young boys and girls to enjoy cricket and learn new skills and techniques.

The weekly courses are run by qualified coaches and cater for children in school years 3 to 8 at various venues; Wednesdays at Oakfield and Fridays at Les Quennevais and Langford.

Chris Minty of the Jersey Cricket Board comments: “We are incredibly grateful to Rathbones for supporting our cricket programme once again and for giving local youngsters the opportunity to learn the sport whilst at the same time gaining key life skills. Many of our current island players, representing Jersey in international tournaments began their careers on these courses and the initiative enables us to marry the highest quality infrastructure with up and coming players.”

Mr Minty also pointed out that in addition to the Spring Term Cricket Courses, Rathbones also support the Primary Schools Cricket Section and as a result allow even more young players to experience and enjoy cricket in Jersey.

Jonathan Giles, managing director of Rathbone Investment Management International added “We are thrilled to remain part of this fantastic programme run by Chris Minty and his dedicated team. Not only are the youngsters learning this wonderful sport but the spirit of cricket, ‘play hard and play fair,’ is being instilled in them at a tender age and this bodes well for the future of Jersey cricket and the youngsters own personal development.”
