Tickets to see world-famous comedian and Hollywood actor Lee Evans at Jersey Opera House this summer sold out in less than five hours.
In record-breaking time for the theatre, all 1,250 tickets for the two dates were snapped up by islanders keen to see the energetic English stand-up in action. The There’s Something About Mary star will perform two ‘work in progress’ gigs on Sunday 15th and Monday 16th June, before he embarks on his new arena show, Monsters, this August.
From the moment the dates were announced at 9am on Wednesday 23rd April, word spread like wildfire thanks to social media and local press coverage. Box Office staff members worked tirelessly throughout the day fielding calls and customers, while the website took a beating from bookers.
Jersey Opera House Marketing & Sales Manager Abi Nance said: “The demand for tickets was unprecedented. Lee Evans sells out 20,000-seater arenas so we knew what to expect. Whether online, on the phone or in person, people were desperate to get hold of tickets and there was no respite. At close of play we had nearly 1,000 voice mail messages! With any big event, getting hold of tickets is generally a mission and sadly it was inevitable that there would be some unhappy, frustrated customers. There were tears from those who weren’t successful, and beaming smiles from those who were. We have smashed all our previous Box Office sales records to date; it was quite a day!”
Lee Evans will perform his warm up gigs at Jersey Opera House on Sunday 15th and Monday 16th June at 8pm. Waiting lists are now closed.
