Recognizing excellence in the built environment
HLG Associates Limited has been awarded Chartered Building Consultancy status by the Chartered Institute of Building (the CIOB).
Chartered Building Consultancy (CBC) status requires the highest qualifications and training criteria for all employees engaged in any aspect of construction management and demonstrates a commitment to professionalism and best practice.
As management consultants for the built environment, HLG Associates becomes one of only two companies in Jersey to meet the strict requirements for membership.
Established in 2010, HLG support the public and private sectors in identifying and selecting the most appropriate suppliers for building, infrastructure and maintenance projects. Its services include procurement and supply chain management, programme and project assurance, dispute management, strategic planning, business consultancy and account services.
HLG’s managing director Simon Matthews said CBC membership was the quality standard for all companies and consultancies whose principal activity related to the built environment and provided industry customers with a guarantee of ‘very expert and economic service’.
“It is recognition of continuing excellence and shows you adhere to the highest levels of professionalism at every level within your organization, but it could not have been achieved without the tremendous support of our growing list of clients,” he added. “HLG is about them, and finding ways of continually adding value in all that HLG do for them.”
Mr Matthews explained that there were also four Chartered Building Companies operating in the Island – including major players such as AC Mauger & Son and Camerons – and as well as investing heavily in the training and development of staff at all levels, CIOB company and consultancy members were also committed to raising standards throughout the construction industry.
Paying tribute to the work of Mr Matthews, Jess Deacon, Chartered Building Company/Consultancy Manager at the CIOB, said: “I have known Simon for a number of years and he has made a major contribution to our organization. I have no doubt HLG will be a significant Chartered Building Consultancy.”
A key figure within the CIOB – he is a board member of the Faculty of Architecture and Surveying and a member of the Stakeholder and External Communications Board – Mr Matthews is currently procurement leader at London Legacy Development Corporation, advising on the procurement of goods, works and services contracts relating to the transformation of the venues and infrastructure being used to host the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
This follows on from his work for the Olympic Delivery Authority, where he was the procurement leader on a range of projects up to £250 million in value, including the international broadcast centre and main press centre, the white-water canoe centre, rowing venue, visitors centre and various temporary venues.
He has also worked on programmes and projects across a wide range of sectors for both public and private sector clients, including the Ministry of Justice, the States of Jersey and Davis Langdon LLP – an AECOM company.
A Chartered Quantity Surveyor and a Chartered Builder, Mr Matthews is also a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, a member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply and holds diplomas in quantity surveying and arbitration.
