On Saturday 5th January 2013, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution in Jersey, along with six volunteers from Rathbones Investment Management International, will pull a lifeboat through the town streets of St Helier to raise funds for the charity. In addition, Rathbones has arranged for celebrity chef Shaun Rankin to provide warming treats for volunteers and the public on route.
The day’s events will begin at 9.45am at St Helier Lifeboat Station when the RNLI and Rathbones volunteers will be kitted out in ‘Lifeboat yellows’ before pulling a Y-class RIB lifeboat from the station to Charing Cross, up Queen and King Street to Snow Hill via the Royal Square and back again.
To warm the crew and volunteers up along their journey there will be a very special guest appearance from local chef Shaun Rankin who has donated his time to serve ‘Shaun Rankin’s Jersey Fish Soup with Rouille and Homemade Bread’, hot chocolate and tasty Bovril. Shaun and his team will be located at Liberation Square between 12pm and 2pm and the delicious treats can also be enjoyed by members of the public for just a small donation to the charity.
The boat pull, organised by Jonathan Cornick, St Helier RNLI’s lifeboat station mechanic, is intended to raise funds for the RNLI and be used for crew training, kit and rescue equipment.
Jonathan Cornick will be running the famous London Marathon in April 2013 in aid of the RNLI, as he has done for the last two years. Jonathan comments: “The boat pull will be great training for the marathon and we hope to raise up to £4,600 for the RNLI which is the equivalent of an emergency sea rescue and one more life saved.” This year he will be joined in the marathon by fellow Lifeboat volunteer crew member James Hope, along with a team from Rathbones who will be “bucket shaking” to make sure the target sum is achieved.
Rathbones Jersey Managing Director Jonathan Giles says, “With Rathbones’ maritime history comes a commitment to the sea and so we have chosen to support the RNLI this year. We are impressed that the RNLI crew not only volunteers to rescue people at sea but also dedicate their spare time to fundraising for the charity too. We are delighted to be by their side for this event.”
To support the pull please look out for the RNLI crew on Saturday 5th January at various locations in central St Helier.
In addition, Shaun Rankin and the Rathbones team will be serving tasty treats to raise money for the RNLI:
