Radier Manor to remain seat of the Earl of Jersey

Radier Manor JerseyJersey News, 3 December 2009 – Radier Manor, the family seat of the Earl and Countess of Jersey, has been removed from the market and will remain the home of the Jersey family.

Having decided to keep the Manor, Lord Jersey has announced plans to substantially invest in the property, making it one of Jersey’s premier wedding and events venues. There are also plans to host annual events within the grounds, such as classical concerts and plays.

“We have given careful thought to our long term needs and the future of our two young children and we feel strongly that staying in Jersey is, by far, the best option for us.  We are committed to living in Jersey and to making it our mission to be good ambassadors for the island in whatever way we can,” commented Lord Jersey.

The extensive and beautiful grounds at Radier Manor are to undergo a radical landscaping and planting programme to make it a desirable location for wedding receptions and private or corporate events.

The plans include a project to turn the already mature and varied garden into a true botanical garden with the help of UK horticultural nurserymen, Raymond and Matthew Hubbard, Lord Jersey’s Stepfather and Stepbrother. They will be working closely with the existing gardeners.

Lord Jersey is already heavily involved in island life. He funds the Lord Jersey Rugby Cup for under 16 schools rugby and recently donated £4,500 to Jersey Rugby Club to fund a number of pre-season matches played against visiting UK teams. He also plays cricket for Springfield CC and is a patron of charities and the arts.  Along with Lady Jersey, herself a patron of the arts and recently appointed manager for the Jersey Dance World Cup Team, Lord Jersey is seeking to bolster Jersey’s image in whatever way he can.

“Once completed, the hope is to open the garden on a full time basis with a tea room to be built within our walled garden.  Hopefully this will attract tourists to the island, or at least add another string to the Jersey tourism bow,” said Lady Jersey.

In addition to the programme for Radier Manor, Lord Jersey is in the process of forming the “Medal D’Honneur Jersiase” which he says will be “awarded by a panel, headed by Lord Jersey, to members of the island community who have served to better or improve the image of Jersey.  Anyone in Jersey will be eligible for nomination.  I want to reward and encourage islanders who do good things around and for the island but it needs to be earned”, added Lord Jersey. “This is still in its infancy but I can confirm that I have discussed the award with the Honours Department for the Crown, who have given me the go ahead.”

Lord Jersey says he is focussed on his future in Jersey: “Until now, we didn’t really have a fixed direction and, now we do, we are taking up the reins in a big way. I don’t feel comfortable bumbling along; we have a lot of plans and are tremendously excited.  We are creating four or five ‘entertaining spaces’ in the grounds and the walled garden is going to be spectacular, particularly in the evening.”
