Purple Sheroes and Heroes

| March 22, 2013 | 0 Comments

As you are aware, the Shero Challenge is taking place each month on the 25th to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Refuge opening in Jersey.

Each month the challenge relates to a different area of domestic abuse that can affect people all over the Island. This month it is focusing on financial control and is promoting financial freedom.

Barclays are supporting this challenge and on Monday 25th March, all members of staff will be wearing purple to work, in turn becoming sheroes and heroes for Refuge. Along with this one member of staff will be dying her hair purple that day!

The Challenge itself will be taking place at 11.30am in the Barclays cashier hall and the three sheroes will begin counting up all the coins that have been collected over the month. It will symbolise how controlling a person financially can be very deceptive to the outside world. Some people can seem well off, having all the latest gadgets or a nice car, yet they do not own a bank account, are forbidden to have a job or have to account for every penny they spend.

A team of Refuge volunteers will be collecting on Saturday in town to help collect coins for this Shero Challenge. There is also a donation box in Barclays.

Throughout the twelve Shero challenges that are taking place each month, on our celebratory 25th anniversary year, we are trying to raise £25,000. Those wishing to show their support and sponsor the Shero Challenge can make an online donation at www.justgiving/sherochallenge or send a cheque to P.O. Box 708 St Helier JE4 0PW.

Adele Langlois from Barclays will be dying her hair at Elmina hair Salon at 7.30am on Monday and will be at the start of the Shero Challenge at 11.30am in Barclays cashier hall. She has already raised £200!
