Les Mielles Golf & Country Club will host Jersey’s first professional golf tournament in over five years. The Voisin & Volaw Channel Island Challenge and Pro-Am will take place in October 2012 and hopes to attract over 20 local and international PGA Professional golfers.
The 54-hole challenge will take place over two days. On Tuesday 23rd October the professional golfers will compete over 36 holes followed by an 18-hole Pro-Am on Wednesday 24th October. The event has been organised by the PGA in England (South) and local PGA Professional, Alex Mollin. Organisers say the course is in its best and toughest condition yet, perfect for a challenging PGA competition.
All participants will have their sights set on the fantastic prize fund of £2,500. The course record, currently held by Crue Elliot, will also be highly contested by the professional field.
Local PGA professionals have eagerly signed up for places but there are more up for grabs on a first come, first served basis. Organiser and PGA Rookie Assistant of the Year, Alex Mollin, says:
‘We expect the remaining places to be taken very quickly. Jersey is a fantastic location for such a competition and we are very excited to be bringing back professional competition to the Island. We are very lucky to have the support of Voisin law firm and Volaw trust company who have come on board as the sponsors of our first local Channel Islands PGA event in over five years. We want this to become a regular, high profile and successful event, and it’s great for The PGA to be involved and come over to the Island to run it for us.’
Ian Strang, Managing Partner, Voisin law firm, added:
‘We are thrilled to be able to bring a professional tournament back to the Island. The Voisin & Volaw Channel Island Challenge and Pro-Am is destined to attract a high quality field of professional and amateur golfers. We hope to see a good number of supporters and golf enthusiasts there on the day too. We are very pleased to support Alex Mollin in the organisation of this sporting event.’
Jon Le Brun, Managing Director, Les Mielles Golf & Country Club, added:
‘After running the PGA event from 2002 to 2007 we are thrilled to once again be hosting such an exciting competition. The condition and set-up of our course will provide the PGA players attending this event with a formidable challenge. Alex Mollin, one of Les Mielles’ PGA Professionals, has been fundamental in resurrecting this Pro-Am Challenge, without her strive and determination such an event would not have been possible.’
