PRIMARY SCHOOLS INVITED TO GET CREATIVE FOR LIONS CLUB JUBILEE
Swimarathon organisers, the Lions Club of Jersey, are inviting all of the Island’s primary school children to get their colouring pencils sharpened and come up with a ‘Golden Jubilee’ design to help mark the Club’s 50th anniversary in Jersey. The entries will be reviewed and five lucky school children will have their designs printed on the Swimarathon 2013 daily bulletin sheets.
Lion Peter Tabb said: ‘What better way to commemorate 50 years of the Lions Club in Jersey than asking the Island’s school children to get involved. After all, it is this generation that we hope will see the Lions Club celebrating another 50 years in the Island!
‘The winning five designs will not only be used on the front cover of the daily bulletins but will also be showcased in a special supplement published during the week leading up to the Swimarathon. The artists themselves will win £250 prize money for their school and also receive an individual prize, so this is a fantastic opportunity to get creative.’
Stuart Rutledge, Head of Global Trust, RBC Wealth Management, said: ‘We have been sponsoring the Swimarathon now for seven years and each year it seems to get bigger and better. With 50 local charities benefitting from the funds raised this year, it would be wonderful to see a record number of entries from the Island’s primary school children.’
The designs submitted must be in colour and fit on an A4 page, allowing space for the Swimarathon logo and the date of the bulletin. The closing date for entries is Wednesday 27 February and judges will include Andrew Pearce, President of the Lions Club of Jersey, the Jersey Evening Post Studio Manager, Ben Le Feuvre, and Leo the Lion on behalf of event sponsors, RBC Wealth Management. To submit an entry or for more details about the design competition, contact Lion Peter Tabb on 726704.
The 2013 Swimarathon takes place between 13 – 17 March at Les Quennevais Sports Centre and more than half the lanes are now booked. Information and registrations are available from the Swimarathon Administrator, PO Box 397, St Helier, Jersey, JE4 9ZX or via email swimarathon@jerseymail.co.uk
