Transport and Technical Services is refurbishing Pier Road Multi Storey Car Park starting 14 July.
Repairs will be made to the concrete floors and they will be overlaid with a coloured waterproof surface. The other concrete surfaces (walls, stairwells, etc) will be cleaned, inspected, repaired and repainted. Also, some of the parking bays will be increased in size.
The electrical systems in the car park (lighting and CCTV) will be renewed, and the external safety fence panels around the car park floors will be replaced.
The project will run over a 16 week period and be carried out in phases. During the first four weeks’ phase, floors 9 to 12 will be closed to the public. The lifts and escalators will still operate to Fort Regent. The ramps on those upper floors will be closed, anyone with specific needs to use those ramps should contact Ross Fearnley tel: 448371.
Following that, work will continue downwards from floor 8, closing off one or two floors at a time. During this time cars may be required to exit from the top of the car park. However, signs will be in place providing drivers with clear indication.
Based upon the amount of vehicles currently using the car park it is thought that sufficient parking spaces will be available during the works to meet demand.
This project is being undertaken as part of a public car park maintenance programme that will provide a better customer experience.
