Parking price rise in line with RPI(Y)

| February 1, 2013 | 0 Comments

The cost of parking is increasing in line with inflation from today, Friday 1 February 2013.

The Minister for Transport and Technical Services has approved an increase in parking charges based on the Retail Price Index for last September of 3.1%. This means that a single unit Paycard will increase from the current price of 71p to the new price of 73p.

The income from the Car Park Trading Fund pays for the repair, maintenance and rebuild of car parks as well as the monitoring of car parking regulation.  This fund not only pays for the 6 multi-storey car parks in St Helier but also 81 other car parks across the Island, most of which provide free parking for at least half of the year.

Deputy Kevin Lewis, Minister for Transport and Technical Services said: “Of course a price increase is never welcomed.  We make an annual increase to ensure that income keeps pace with inflation so that there’s enough money to keep our car parks up to a reasonable standard.  Jersey parking charges still remain some of the least expensive in the British Isles.”
