Forty two junior tennis players have signed up to play in the inaugural Mini Tennis Championships at Les Mielles Tennis Club on Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th September 2013.
Les Mielles Tennis Club (LMTC) has confirmed that, due to demand, the event will take place over two days and is delighted that a tennis player from Guernsey will also be travelling to the island to participate.
The event, which is sponsored by ABN AMRO, will be split into three different categories. Those aged 4-8 play Mini Tennis Red which is played on smaller courts with shorter rackets and softer balls. Ages 8-9 play Mini Tennis Orange on a larger court with slightly bigger rackets with faster and smaller balls. Players aged 9-10 play Mini Tennis Green on a full size court and balls are faster still.
LMTC Chairman Faye Camp commented: ‘In partnership with ABN AMRO, LMTC is proud to be hosting The Mini Tennis Championships and creating new competition opportunities for young tennis players in the island. We hope this first event is a great success.’
ABN AMRO, which is the longest established Continental European bank in the Channel Islands, has supported Les Mielles Tennis Club for more than seven years, funding the club’s growing junior schemes including its primary school outreach programme. In 2013 more than 250 local youngsters in Jersey have benefitted from special coaching sessions funded by ABN AMRO.
