Offshore Businesses Demand Smart IT Solutions

Jersey News, 11 December 2009 – Leading managed and professional IT services provider, Itex, predicts a wave of IT evolution amongst businesses in the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man next year, as identified by a recent survey carried out by the group. Findings reveal that the majority of offshore clients are actively looking to gain greater efficiencies and costs savings from their IT investment.

The survey further revealed that 9 out of 10 island businesses, believe that working with a focused IT service provider allowed them to optimise the use of new, innovative, technologies which ultimately improve their ability to meet business needs.

Chairman of Itex, Dr Ian Jauncey says, “This is an exciting time for all players in the IT services market as our survey highlights a growing demand for more sophisticated, smart solutions from IT providers which focus on Managed and Professional IT Services. Of the organisations surveyed, 90% believed that Managed Services is a core competency of Itex today.”

“The future of IT solutions will take the form of a utility service. This means that key components of the IT infrastructure such as hardware, operating systems and even business applications could be purchased as a service as opposed to the traditional capital expenditure model. Smart companies need to make their technology work harder to exploit business growth opportunities and generate cost efficiencies. Itex has launched a programme of evolution to focus on Managed and Professional Services to respond directly to the needs of our clients and technology trends. Further, we plan to appoint well‐established and well‐regarded service partners to provide complementary support services in close association with us.”

Itex is also investing over £1M in new innovative services supported by new technologies, systems and internal training programmes across Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man, to further underpin managed IT services in 2010. New services include the much talked about “Cloud” computing, an infrastructure that facilitates utility services to multiple customers over the Internet.

According to Gartner*, the leading IT industry analyst, cloud computing is the most important strategic technology for 2010. It is imperative that businesses examine the benefits of cloud computing and develop a strategy to leverage it. Itex is continuing to expand both its federated and private cloud models in 2010 to drive business advantage whilst ensuring that data security is not compromised.

Itex will continue to invest in new technologies in order to provide optimum Managed Service solutions, of which cloud computing is a core element. Equally, Itex will continue to invest in its Professional Services practice to deliver ultimate business value to offshore companies.
