Fifteen students have just embarked on a life changing experience as they started their two-year degree in BSc (Hons) International Financial Services at Jersey International Business School University Centre on Wednesday 9 October.
In addition to being offered a place on the degree, students also had the opportunity to apply for paid part-time work placements with highly regarded work support programme partners: HSBC, RBS International, Standard Chartered, UBS, Ogier and Canaccord.
Several of the new students have already been delighted to accept offers to work with these world class financial institutions and the remaining students are currently still undergoing the interview process.
Chris Usher, Senior Lecturer and Commercial Director at Jersey International Business School, comments, “The Work Support Programme has been running successfully with HSBC and RBS International since 2012 and our current students taking part in the programme have really benefited from the experience of working in these organisations and putting their learning into practice. We are delighted that this year, additional programme partners are on-board such as Standard Chartered, UBS, Ogier and Canaccord which provide our students with even more opportunity to take part in paid, structured and all important work experience as they work through their degree.”
The Induction week was led by Emma Boustouler, Programme Director on the degree. As a senior lecturer at the Business School Emma has a broad range of teaching experience and will also be teaching on the degree in the first term. Emma tells us, “The induction week for our second intake of students onto the degree has been a great success. This is a valuable time for students to get to know each other and their surroundings. The students first lecture was an exciting opportunity to meet with Rick Parry, former Chief Executive of the FA Premier League and Liverpool FC, who delivered an exclusive lecture on leadership to all our degree students. Students on the degree benefit from having access to events and training such as this which is hosted by the school. In November, all year 2 students will be attending the 9th Annual Compliance & Economic Crime Symposium which will complement their studies”
The Business School’s collaboration with The University of Buckingham has led to the first two-year degree being offered on Island and awarded by a top ranked university (rated 25th out of 119 institutions in The Guardian’s 2014 league table). Buckingham was the first UK University to condense the academic content of a standard 3-year degree into a 2-year programme which has proved to have a broad appeal in Jersey.
Applications are already being received for the 2014 intake and to find out more about the degree contact the Admissions Officer on 816333 or email email@example.com
