Mourant Ozannes has been shortlisted for the inaugural African Legal Awards in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution team of the Year Category and is the only offshore law firm to be named in the shortlist.
The African Legal Awards celebrate legal excellence in Africa and submissions were judged by a panel of senior in-house lawyers and other legal and business figures from across the African continent.
The shortlist, for the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Team of the Year, was based on the successful appeal by Mourant Ozannes and Liedekerke Wolters Waelbroeck Kirkpatrick on behalf of La Generale des Carrieres et Mines Sarl (Gécamines), the Congolese state owned mining company, against proceedings brought by FG Hemisphere Associates LLC.
Partner Justin Harvey-Hills, who led the Mourant Ozannes team said: “We are rightly proud of this acknowledgement, which recognises the depth of knowledge and expertise of the Litigation team. To be shortlisted with some of the most highly regarded law firms in the world by such an eminent panel of judges, drawn from across the legal and business community in Africa, is indeed an honour.”
Winners of the Awards, which are hosted jointly by Legal Week and the Corporate Lawyers Association of South Africa, will be announced at a presentation evening and gala dinner to be held in Johannesburg on 24 October.
