Mourant Ozannes makes strong showing in latest offshore survey
Leading offshore law firm, Mourant Ozannes, has ranked higher than any other Channel Islands headquartered firm in the latest survey carried out by The Lawyer, one of the leading publications in the legal services sector.
Commenting on the results of the offshore survey, The Lawyer said Mourant Ozannes “had a strong year in terms of financial, headcount and strategic development.”
Managing Partner Jonathan Rigby told the magazine: “Our BVI and Hong Kong launches were key parts of our five-year plan. Essentially, our strategy is about being a leading firm in four offshore jurisdictions – the BVI, Cayman, Guernsey and Jersey.”
There was also independent praise for the firm, with one observer quoted as saying that Mourant Ozannes: “has, in my view, the most charismatic, dynamic senior management. I think you’ll see the firm making significant advances.”
With the opening of offices in Hong Kong and BVI in 2012, Mourant Ozannes now has 53 partners and over 220 lawyers and legal assistants in six jurisdictions. The firm’s all-equity partnership model with a single profit pool across all offices and service lines is unique amongst the major offshore law firms. Rigby comments that the partnership model “promotes a cohesive, ‘one-firm’ approach, a common sense of purpose and strategic clarity.”
The survey of 30 firms operating in the offshore market is carried out by The Lawyer annually and ranks respondents based on a number of criteria. Research is undertaken on firms head-quartered in Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Jersey, Gibraltar, Guernsey and the Isle of Man, in the areas of partner numbers, headcount, revenue, key clients and strategic developments.
