Mourant Ozannes has advised Volaw, one of Jersey’s leading providers of fiduciary services, on its merger with Europlan.

The merger brings together two long-established Jersey-based trust services businesses. The merged business comprises almost 100 directors and employees, making it one of Jersey’s larger independent fiduciary services companies.

The Mourant Ozannes’ team was led by Managing Associate Matthew Shaxson and Senior Associate Jon Woolrich.  Matthew commented: “We are very pleased to have been able to assist Volaw achieve the merger.  Indications are that there is scope for significant activity in the local mergers and acquisitions market in the near future as trust companies increasingly look to external investment or consolidation to achieve growth.”

Robert Christensen, managing director of the combined Volaw group, said: “It had always been the desire of Volaw and Europlan to achieve a merger rather than one party acquiring the other.  This gave rise to complex legal structuring issues which Mourant Ozannes took in their stride.  The service provided by Mourant Ozannes has been excellent and we have enjoyed working with Matthew and Jon.”
