The first Jersey ABN AMRO Mini Tennis Championships which was held at Les Mielles Tennis Club (LMTC) over the weekend has been hailed a resounding success with over 40 tennis players taking the opportunity to gain further competition experience, with one player travelling from Guernsey to participate.
Each category was fiercely contested and the winners were presented with their prizes by LMTC’s Faye Camp and Joel Camp and ABN AMRO’s Noel McLaughlin. Prizes and goodie bags for all entrants were supplied by ABN AMRO.
LMTC Chairman Faye Camp commented: ‘There was an excellent turn out for the first Mini Tennis Championships and LMTC is grateful to ABN AMRO for its on-going support of junior tennis. The feedback on the event has been very positive and the mini tennis players have gained valuable experience from the competition. I hope that the event will become a permanent fixture on the tennis calendar and that we can attract more players from Guernsey to make it more of a Channel Islands event.’
Noel McLaughlin from ABN AMRO added: ‘ABN AMRO is pleased to play a part in creating more opportunities for the Channel Islands’ young tennis players to get together and compete. Well done to all the entrants who have shown that there is a wealth of junior tennis talent in the Channel Islands as well as to Faye and Joel for their on-going hard work and commitment to LMTC.’
ABN AMRO, which is the longest established Continental European bank in the Channel Islands, has supported Les Mielles Tennis Club for more than seven years, funding the club’s growing junior schemes including its primary school outreach programme. In 2013 more than 250 local youngsters in Jersey have benefitted from special coaching sessions funded by ABN AMRO.
