Jersey Women’s Refuge will be inviting women to “Make it a First’ at this year’s International Women’s Day celebratory breakfast. Guests will be encouraged to do something for the very first time, to help ensure their emotional needs are met and improve their well-being. This can be anything from starting a new hobby, making a new friend, to volunteering or just coming along on the day. This is the third fundraising breakfast organised by the Refuge with each year getting bigger and better: last year’s breakfast saw 120 women attend. As this year marks the 25th anniversary of the Women’s Refuge opening its doors they envisage this year’s breakfast to be the best so far.
International Women’s Day has grown to become a global day of recognition and celebration across developed and developing countries alike. Our first IWD breakfast took place in 2011. The event invites women to come together and celebrate their success and achievements whilst enjoying good food, company and entertainment. This year guests will not be disappointed as there is a full line up of interesting entertainment including special guest speaker Dr Hilary Abrahams who is travelling from the UK to attend. Guests will be treated to a variety of entertainment including: poetry, a performance by classical girl band Tre and a comedy sketch from Trudi Roscouet. There will also be an update on the Shero Challenge .
The Barclays Inspirational Woman Award is a special part of the breakfast event and will be presented to an Inspirational Woman who has been nominated by the public. Last year’s award was presented to Sophie Le Sueur from Advance to Work in recognition of her inspiration to young people. Nominations are now being accepted and can be sent in by post or submitted online to email@example.com
Seats can be booked online through www.justgiving.com/internationalwomensday or cheques sent to P.O. Box 708, St Helier, JE4 0PW.
