The Lions Club of Jersey is urging local charities to apply for a chance to be chosen as a beneficiary of this year’s Swimarathon. The deadline for submissions is Saturday 16 February.

2013 marks the 50th anniversary of the Lions Club of Jersey, and this milestone will be commemorated with 50 percent of the Swimarathon proceeds being donated to 50 local charities. The remaining 50 percent will go towards supporting the local community throughout the year.

Lions Club of Jersey President Andrew Pearce says: ‘As we are celebrating our 50th anniversary this year, we felt it was only fitting to ask charities to go for gold and benefit from what we hope will be a bumper year of fundraising. We have been delighted by the response so far, but would encourage other charities to get in touch for their chance to become one of the 50 chosen beneficiaries. In addition, charities who have been beneficiaries of previous Swimarathons are welcome to apply again this year’.

The Lions Club of Jersey will consider applications for financial support where the charity seeks to improve the quality of life for people living in Jersey. One charity that has already submitted its application is Art in the Frame. Pat Robson, Director of the charity, says: ‘If we are successful with our application we will use the funding to support our half-term and holiday ‘arty-crafty’ workshops for children and adult Mencap students. These offer a great experience that encourages creativity and are open to all levels of experience’.

Stuart Rutledge, CEO, RBC Wealth Management – British Isles and Caribbean, says: ‘The Swimarathon is a community event to its core – from the Lions Club members and the participants who swim to the individuals who directly benefit from the funds raised. We are delighted to have sponsored such a great occasion for the past seven years and encourage more charities to come forward before next week’s deadline’.

For details on how charities can apply please contact Peter Tabb on 07797 721275 or via email Completed applications must be submitted to the Swimarathon Administrator, PO Box 397, St Helier, Jersey JE4 9ZX or via e-mail by Saturday 16 February 2013.

The Island’s longest running charity fundraiser is being held at Les Quennevais Sports Centre from Wednesday 13 March to Sunday 17 March 2013.
