Leading lawyers from the Employment team at Mourant Ozannes will be speaking to senior industry leaders about the challenges faced by employers and employees when it comes to retirement, at a seminar to be held next week in Jersey and Guernsey.

Helen Ruelle and Jessica Roland will lead a discussion at breakfast meetings about the thorny issue of employee retirement.

In a world where life expectancy is on the rise, and financial pressures on employees and employers are increasing, questions about retirement and older workers have become ever more challenging for employers. Should employees be allowed to work for longer? Is it reasonable to have a contractual retirement age, and what can employers do if they want to amend a contractual retirement age? Can employers amend pension arrangements?

The seminars will also consider how a contract should be terminated on retirement, what happens if an employee would like to continue to work beyond a contractual retirement age and how this will impact on pension rights and succession planning.

The seminars, which are being held at the Club Hotel & Spa in Jersey on Tuesday and the OGH in Guernsey on Wednesday are targeted at HR professionals and senior managers or business owners.
