Judges Announced for Jersey Enterprise Awards

Isle News, 21 October 2009 – The judges who have the unenviable task of selecting the winners of this year’s Jersey Enterprise Awards have now been announced.

Changes to the panel this year include the appointment of Peter Shirreffs, previously Head of Business Banking at NatWest.  Peter has a strong commercial background with a breadth of business knowledge.  During the judging process Peter will be visiting each of the short listed companies to get a better appreciation of the company and its performance.

As in previous years, there will be an additional judge on each award panel who will represent the sponsor of that particular award category.  Under the chairmanship of Senator Alan Maclean, Minister for Economic Development, the judging panel will select the winners of the Small, Medium and Large Business categories.  The winners of these three categories will be then be considered for the ‘Business of the Year’ Award with all the winners being announced at the Gala Diner on February 26th 2010.

Joining Senator Maclean and Peter Shirreffs on the independent judging panel will be Advocate Jane Martin, Steve Hunt representing the Institute of Directors and Ray Shead, President of the Chamber of Commerce.

The sponsor representatives on each judging panel will be:

  • Graeme Smith, RBS International representing NatWest – Small Business of the Year Award
  • Richard Plane, Altis Partners – Medium Business of the Year Award
  • Simon Perree, Play.com – Large Business of the Year Award
  • Tim Ringsdore, Jersey Telecom – Business of the Year Award
  • Gary Millns, BPP Professional Education – Manager of the Year Award

Commenting on this year’s judging panel, Senator Alan Maclean said “If previous years are anything to go by, I am sure that we will once again see some excellent entries.  The judges have extensive business expertise and I am looking forward to working with them to evaluate and ultimately select the worthy winners.”

The three ‘non-business’ categories, namely Condor Ferries Community Award, the Guiton Group Ambassador of the Year Award and the Jersey Electricity Environmental Award as well as the Indigo Lighthouse Group Entrepreneur of the Year Award will each have a separate judging panel appointed.  The names of those judges will be announced in due course.
