JT warmly welcomes the regulator’s decision to allow the JT Group to provide 4G services across the Channel Islands, through the award of the spectrum licence. We will now complete our launch plans to put in place the necessary network infrastructure as soon as possible, with customers being able to access this superfast data service in 2015.
4G has been described as ‘broadband for your mobile’ and will enable mobile phones, tablets and laptops (via a dongle) to connect to superfast, high-capacity data services while on the move. For example, it will make everyday activities such as streaming video/audio, or downloading a newspaper much quicker, smoother and more convenient on the go.
This move fits perfectly with the ongoing digital development of the Channel Islands’ economies, and JT is really looking forward to continuing its track record of substantial investment in the islands local networks through provision of these services.
JT CEO, Graeme Millar, commented:
“I would like to thank all my staff for their hard work in getting us to this point and we are delighted to hear the news of our licence. We will now be focussing on our planning, delivery and execution of our network upgrade programme to ensure that as the Channel Islands’ largest mobile community we bring these services to our customers as soon as possible.”
The combination of extensive 4G coverage, alongside JT’s fibre-optic broadband services, means the Channel Islands will soon be one of the most seamlessly ‘connected’ places in the world, which is great for local residents, and businesses alike.
