Following the launch of its new pan-island telephone directory earlier this year, JT is pleased to announce the launch of the first combined Jersey and Guernsey online yellow pages directory www.jtdirectory.com

JT has a vision of being the partner of choice for global telecoms innovation, therefore to meet demand for a digital solution and compliment the paper Directory, it has invested in a new online directory which offers both business and the general public the latest search functionality, and provides islanders with advanced listings for businesses across the islands.

Barna Kutvolgyi, Director of Global Consumer Business Unit at JT, said: “During the distribution of the new pan-island directory customers asked us if we were going to develop and launch a complimentary online version too. So, we listened to them and we are pleased to have now launched our first online ‘yellow pages’ for the islands.”

This stand-alone portal has multi-search functionalities which have been designed to improve the overall customer experience and speed up the search process. Allowing users to search on a varietry of levels including; by island, by parish, by category and by business name providing them with a choice of search options, but with the added benefit of being able to filter to get the most relevant results.

The site also recognises if a visitor to the site is using a mobile handset and will automatically take them through to a page that is specifically built for and optimised for mobile devices. This will ensure their user experience is improved and help ensure they are minimising the amount of data they are using at the same time.

Mr Kutvolgyi continued: “Both our printed and online pan-island directory have been welcomed by local businesses and we are very pleased to be able to provide our advertisers with this additional service which offers them and their customers further benefits and exposure for businesess.“

Furthermore the new online directory has been further enhanced to enable Smartphone users to send information from the site directly through to their Smartphone, through the use of the increasingly popular QR code technology. The site also has the facility to link the online listings to Google Maps, which will continue to grow as the site is launched, and in addition an iPhone app has been developed to provide the same functionality but with the added benefit of GPS (global positioning system) location services, to get directions from where the user is standing at that point in time.

For the first time there is also the facility for users to leave reviews against listings using a star rating like popular sites such as Tripadvisor and Ratedpeople.com. Users of the site will be able to leave other users endorsements or constructive feedback, which in turn will help islanders make better informed choices for their specific service area. In addition, advertisers can make changes to their advert at any time, are not contracted to an annual subscription and can choose from a variety of packages which offer different advertising options on the site.
