JT launches 4G mobile service in the USA

The Channel Islands’ leading mobile services provider has extended its global reach to launch a domestic 4G mobile service in the United States.

Thanks to a strategic partnership with a major global mobile operator, JT is introducing a mobile virtual network operator service (MVNO) offering domestic rates. The JT 4G SIM cards will go on sale across the USA during May 2014 and will also be available at JT retail outlets and other local distributors for islanders to purchase prior to travel.

Barna Kutvolgyi, Managing Director of Global Consumer division at JT, explained: “We are very pleased to be launching an MVNO 4G service in the US which not only extends our capability within the mobile sector and our presence in this market, but also provides even better roaming rates for our customers underlining JT’s commitment to offer the best value services and the best prices. This means as well as benefitting from domestic rates while travelling in the US, this deal will also allow us to add the US into our latest roaming data products, so offering our customers data from as little as just 10p per MB while travelling within the most popular destinations including UK, France and the USA.”

He added: “Joining together with a major global player in a direct partnership has allowed us to deliver this new service and it also means that we have gained the valuable 4G experience to ensure that we seamlessly replicate a 4G service for our customers as soon as the new network licences are awarded in the Channel Islands.

More than half of JT’s revenue comes from outside Jersey and the introduction of a domestic SIM card in the US is another example of how building global partnerships is enabling JT to achieve its five year growth strategy and firmly establish itself as a global operator and partner of choice for telecoms innovation, while bringing direct benefits back to our customers in the Channel Islands.

Talking about JT’s roaming solutions in more general terms, Mr Kutvolgyi added: “As well as having an impressive 509 roaming agreements spanning 216 destinations making us the most connected provider, JT delivers a host of roaming solutions to help ensure customers don’t get ‘caught out’ by high charges; from pre-travel advice/in store support and automated SMS alerts, to great value Travel SIMs and low cost data bolt-ons. JT offer a wide range of cost saving options for all our customers to help them stay in touch wherever they travel.

“Our ongoing investment and acquisition strategies are bringing about some very tangible benefits for our customers already and in the very near future we are also looking to make it even easier to roam with JT by introducing roaming monetary ‘caps’. This is a way to enable customers to manage their own roaming costs and avoid ‘bill shock’, and although we continue to drive down the cost of roaming we still advise our customers to think about roaming costs and plan before they go away.”
