JT Expands Data Centre by 20% to Meet Demand
Jersey News, 7 January 2010 – In response to continued demand in the market, Jersey Telecom has expanded capacity at its Five Oaks Data Centre by 20% and completed an upgrade to the air conditioning system for its Business Continuity suites at the same site.
The upgrade is part of a Group wide strategy to invest in data hosting and related services. It follows the news that JT’s sister company, Wave Telecom, has acquired Newtel Guernsey, which includes a substantial and established data hosting business in the Bailiwick.
Tim Ringsdore, Managing Director of both Jersey Telecom and Wave Telecom, said: “Data hosting is one of our fasting growing businesses and we continue to see strong demand across the Channel Islands. This latest expansion is part of our long-term strategy to deliver world-class data hosting facilities that offer customers the very best in network connectivity, security, site diversity and 24/7 support.
Expanding our Five Oaks site by 20% and adding a new data centre to our portfolio through the acquisition of Newtel Guernsey re-enforces our position as the market leader and we have plans for further development next year.”
JT’s data hosting centres are purpose built facilities that provide resilient and highly secure environments for customers’ essential computer equipment, including the powerful computer servers that run business critical systems and specialist data storage equipment.
Data hosting has seen rapid growth in recent years as corporate IT departments look to place their key systems in data centres that are able to offer direct connectivity to the telecommunications network, sophisticated security and highly resilient power supplies. The centres provide a cost effective solution for customers as they remove the need for companies to build their own secure hosting environments and also provide physical diversity in the event of problems, such as fire or flood damage, at a company’s own premises.
