JT AND TEENAGE CANCER TRUST JOINED TOGETHER TO RAISE £10,000
The Teenage Cancer Trust’s campaign to fund the development of specialist accommodation at Southampton Hospital has been given a financial boost of £10,000 thanks to the efforts of JT’s fundraising throughout 2011.
JT identified Teenage Cancer Trust as its chosen charity for 2011 and pledged to support the charity all year in its aim to fundraise for the construction of the very first specialist state-of-the-art cancer unit at Southampton General Hospital. The Teenage Cancer Trust unit will support young cancer patients living in the Channel Islands, Hampshire, Dorset and parts of West Sussex.
Throughout the twelve month period all staff at JT engaged in a variety of fundraising activities to help towards this goal, with a number of JT employees taking the opportunity, to significantly increase funds by donating one hour of their salary. Each pound that was given was then matched by JT to raise a staggering £5,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust from this initiative alone.
Barna Kutvolgyi, MD of Global Consumer Business Unit at JT, said: “We are committed to supporting the communities in the Channel Islands and historically have chosen a new charity each year to benefit from our active annual fundraising efforts. The work of Teenage Cancer Trust makes all the effort that was put in, by all of our staff, incredibly worthwhile and deserved of our support, so we were pleased to team up with them last year to make such a valid contribution to their endeavours. As well as raising funds, we were also delighted to be able to provide VIP access at Jersey Live for some of the teenagers suffering from cancer, it was a pleasure for our team to host them and we hope made a lasting memory for each of them.”
Helen Haynes, Regional Appeals Manager at Teenage Cancer Trust, said: ‘”We were absolutely delighted to be chosen as JT’s charity of the year and the total amount raised is fantastic. This is a significant figure, which when added to our other fundraising initiatives, means we are well on our way to reaching the appeal target and ensuring the much needed specialist Teenage Cancer Trust unit is developed. We are very grateful to each and every employee at JT who volunteered their time to fundraising on our behalf and we thank JT for matching their efforts so generously.”
