Jersey’s credentials as the gateway to Europe for Chinese businesses, will be highlighted to around 500 leading business professionals, government officials and politicians at a major conference next week.

At the China-Britain Business Council’s (CBBC) China Business Conference 2014, which is due to take place at the QEII Conference Centre in London on Tuesday 14th January, Assistant Minister for Economic Development Deputy James Baker will meet delegates and government officials, with Locate Jersey being the conference’s lunch sponsor. A number of other Jersey business and organisations are also due to attend, including Jersey Finance, Jersey Post, Indigo Lighthouse, First Names Group and Professional Fulfilment Services.

It will be the second consecutive year Locate Jersey have been a sponsor of the event, which is one of the key British-China conferences to take place in the UK and aims to provide UK companies with guidance on developing opportunities for inbound and outbound business with Chinese companies. Speakers at the event include HE Ambassador Liu Xiaoming, Chinese Ambassador to the UK, the Rt Hon Liam Byrne MP, and Gordon Orr, Chairman for McKinsey Asia.

Locate Jersey’s attendance at the conference, which is a fundamental element of the Chinese market entry strategy, builds on a programme of China-focused activity in recent months and follows participation in a number of events held in conjunction with CBBC and InvestHK in Hong Kong and Shenzhen in November and in Jersey in June last year.

Deputy James Baker said:

“It is extremely important that we continue to build positive relationships in such a rapidly growing market, and our involvement in the China Business Conference will give us an excellent opportunity to explain to London-based business leaders, Jersey’s role as a gateway to European markets. The extensive experience of Jersey firms operating in markets across the world means that Jersey is well placed to support both the raft of Chinese firms seeking to expand globally and the UK’s efforts in building strong links with China.”
