In 2015 the Island will celebrate the 70th Anniversary of Liberation; as Jersey’s most poignant reminder of German Occupation, Jersey War Tunnels will be marking this historic date with an island wide film competition.
Jersey War Tunnels will award an impressive £5,000 to the Islander who can produce the best video depicting any aspect of the Jersey Occupation. The competition is open from 6th November 2013 to 1st November 2014. The winner will be decided at a live final at Jersey War Tunnels and then their piece will be displayed in a Tunnel exhibition to be viewed by tens of thousands of visitors throughout 2015.
Entrants are being asked to submit a film of no longer than 10 minutes that is fitting for a celebration of 70 years of Liberation. The competition is open to anyone and any group and there is no age limit.
The judging panel comprises Kathy Bechelet (JWT Operations Manager), Roger Colyer (JWT Trustee), Tim Bonner (Yum Yum Films), Eric Blakeley (News Editor, ITV Channel Television), and Rebecca Coley (Film maker).
Kathy Bechelet, Jersey War Tunnels Operations Manager, says:
‘The competition has been designed to alight the creativity within our Island community and engage them in the celebration of 70 years of Liberation. This is a hugely exciting competition for Jersey War Tunnels and reflects our desire to invest in new media to keep the story of the Occupation of Jersey relevant to the younger generation. We hope to see our entrants taking a new approach to the subject matter and we are writing to all the schools and film clubs to encourage them to get involved too. We look forward to receiving entries and leading the Island towards a great anniversary celebration.’
Entry forms can be picked up from Jersey War Tunnels, Channel Television Studios and The Refinery (11 Peter Street) between 10am and 5pm. Please visit facebook.com/jerseywartunnels for further details.
