From October this year, Jersey Post’s mailing house Promail will outsource its printing and enclosing services to locally based specialist printers Mailmate.
Established in 1998, Promail offers a digital printing and mailing solution where raw data is converted into physical pieces of enclosed, promotional or transactional mail for local & international businesses. With customers now demanding a wider and more complex range of printing options and finishing techniques, the decision to outsource the later stages of the print process will allow Promail to focus on its unique skills in data management, address and data cleansing, document design and security management.
This agreement will see the need for Mailmate to seek a second premises in order to accommodate the increase in workload that this will bring to the St Aubin-based business. These premises will be specially fitted out to accommodate the additional staff and equipment that will be relocated from Promail’s current production premises at Beaumont.
From the existing workforce at Promail, there are arrangements in place that will mean no member of the full-time staff faces compulsory redundancy. Six of the Promail staff will move from Beaumont to Postal Headquarters at Rue des Pres, and seven members of the Promail production team will be offered the choice of equivalent roles with Mailmate or, if they prefer, another position at Jersey Post.
Paul Marett, Head of Promail said, “Whilst not an easy decision to make, we recognise that we are unable to offer the increasingly complex range of print and finishing techniques that customers are requesting. The partnership we have created will provide a greater range of services to our customers but will also enable us to ensure all our full-time staff involved with the physical element of the process remain employed.”
With effect from October, subject to any necessary regulatory approvals, Promail will continue to own the customer relationships, and will be responsible for the complete management of services from the receipt of data through to doorstep delivery. Whilst the physical pieces of mail will be printed at an alternative location and customers will be able to benefit from more choice of techniques and finishes, total responsibility for service quality and security will still remain firmly with Promail.
“There will be no change for the customer through this partnership. The service offered will continue to be seamless, but with the added benefit of improved customer choice for specialised printing and finishing. We hope that this will be of great benefit to our customers,” said Mr Marett.
It is also expected that the partnership will help to grow business for data and print management as the two parties both bring many years of expertise in their respective fields, coupled with personal service based on quality, security and competitive postal rates into Europe.
Neil Faudemer, Managing Director at Mailmate stated, “This is a really exciting partnership. With Promail’s experience in data Management and our expertise in printing and finishing we are now jointly able to offer robust and flexible technical solutions which are cutting edge in a wide range of mailing services. This is an extremely positive step in moving both businesses forward by utilizing both companies’ skill sets.”
