| April 21, 2011 | 0 Comments

The Jersey Opera House brochure will be sent to all 38,800 households on the island by Jersey Post commencing Tuesday 26th April.

This season is full of diversity! From NT Live screening of The Cherry Orchard, starring Zoë Wannamaker, to the Met: live in HD second installment of Robert Lepage’s new production of the Ring cycle, Die Walküre.

We get to welcome back some audience and JOH favourites this summer such as the Liberation Jersey International Music Festival, Magic a kind of Queen, The Shaolin Warriors (which is in support of the Prostate Cancer Charity), Motown’s Greatest Hits and The Royal Air Force Squadronaires. These festivals and shows have always been extremely well received and at times we have waiting lists a mile long to get tickets – so remember to book early.

The highlight of the season comes in the form of Cirque du Ciel’s Shanghai. ‘Shanghai’ is a 2 hour extravaganza that combines acrobatics, modern dance, original music, martial arts and many other Chinese elements. With superb costumes, sets and lighting, this stunning production showcases the skills of not only the performers but the world class team behind the scenes. ‘Shanghai’ is the artistic collaboration between Theatre Productions International Ltd, Chinese producers and Cirque Du Soleil KA and Dralion director, Guy Caron.

There are also the community productions from a whole host of clubs and organisations such as Le Rocquier Big Band, The Gondoliers presented by the Jersey Gilbert and Sullivan Society and the J.A.D.C’s two productions – A Slice of Saturday Night and Sentimental Journey.

We could not go without mentioning the Rawlinson & Hunter Gala Recital Evening with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Dennis O’Neill & Michael Pollock – it is exciting times here at the Jersey Opera House.

Jasmine Hendry, Theatre Director of the Opera House said “This summer season we have a diverse range of live stage shows and live screenings, all of which are of exceptional quality and not to be missed. I am looking forward to the big stage production of Cirque du Ciel’s Shanghai – I love watching these phenomenal and massive shows on our beautiful stage and also the hustle and bustle of the team behind the scenes. We have some great shows coming your way so I’d suggest booking early as last season our shows sold out very quickly!!”

The Jersey Opera House has recently been successful with their Fiscal Stimulus Bid. Therefore building refurbishment works has begun on the venue. The four phase operation will be carried out on the following: Phase 1. Café Bar; Phase 2. First floor of office building; Phase 3. Second floor office and new performance studio; Phase 4. New third floor bar and hospitality space. Due to the building work taking place during the month of July we will not be showing any performances at the Jersey Opera House.

All shows are now on sale at the Jersey Opera House Box Office. To book call 511115 or email
