The Jersey Golf Union Junior Committee has selected the team to represent Jersey in the 2013 Standard Bank Inter-insular Challenge Trophy match against Guernsey on 24th and 25th August at the Royal Jersey Golf Club. The Juniors are also going to be taking on the Senior Island team at the Royal Jersey on Thursday 22nd August as a warm-up. The island squads will be playing five four-ball matches from 3pm and it would be a great opportunity to see the young talent in action ahead of the inter-insular.
The junior players are: Jonny Anderson (Captain); Harry Gallichan; Jack Gibson; Flora Keites; Stanley Keites; Leo Loftsson; Jason Stokes; Adam Trotter with reserves: Kalem Sunter & Hannah Scriven.
Graham Bisson, Chairman of the Jersey Junior Golf Committee said this year’s squad is going to give the seniors a good match: ‘It has been an excellent season for the juniors this year and we have some wonderful up and coming players. The Jersey squad includes seven playing off a handicap of five or under, and one female player. The support we have again received from Standard Bank has been vital in providing opportunities for our young players to flourish.’
Jersey team Captain Jonny Anderson is 15 and from De La Salle College, he has 2 caps under his belt and plays off a handicap of 4. Jonny has been a green jackets finalist and is this year’s Gothard Trophy winner.
There are four rookie players in this year’s squad, including Flora Keites. Claire Reid head of Marketing & Communications at Standard Bank said: ‘It is very satisfying to see so many young players improving their game and getting the chance to play in tournaments like this, especially thirteen year old Flora who is following in the footsteps of Jersey’s big female success, Olivia Jordan-Higgins who is now professional and showing great promise in international tournaments. Standard Bank has been committed to supporting junior golf talent in Jersey for many years and we wish the squad the best of luck in the climax to this season, the Inter-insular Challenge Trophy.’
