This summer Jersey Heritage is asking members of the public to capture their special memories enjoyed at Jersey’s most iconic heritage sites, events & exhibitions as it launches the Jersey Memory Instagram Competition2014.
From Friday 25th July members of the public are invited to enter the social media competition for a chance to win a ‘St Ouen’sHeritage Experience’, which includes a two night stay at a Jersey Heritage Holiday Let*, £100 El Tico Gift Voucher, a Surf Lesson for two people with Laneez Surf Center and a Limited Edition Silver & Silk Celtic Coin Hoard bracelet or pewter cufflinks.
This is the second year that Jersey Heritage has run a photography competition in recent years and with over 250 entries for its Instagram category in the Spirit of Heritage competition in 2013, the organisation decided to focus the 2014 competition primarily with its growing audience of social media followers.
Entries can be submitted either as pictures or a 15 second video**until Monday 20 October, when an official Panel of Judges will select their favourite 15 pictures and 15 video entries to go to public vote. Once the shortlist is announced, the public will have just one week to vote for their favourite entries and the winner in both categories will be announced on Friday 31st October.
The criteria for this year’s competition is to capture a special memory at a Jersey Heritage site, event or exhibition; whether it is a video of exploring the castle walls, a snap of family enjoying a morning coffee after a stay at a Heritage Holiday Let, a picnic shared at La Hougue Bie or children singing at the Hamptonne Cider Festival. To enter, people just need to post their entries through Instagram, tagging @JerseyHeritage and supporting with the appropriate hashtag – #JerseyMemory for pictures or #JerseyMemoryvid for videos.
Deputy Rod Bryans, Head Judge of the 2014 Jersey Memory Competition commented:”Photography has grown immensely in popularity due to Instagram. People have become aware of the instant design qualities it offers. We want small snaps recording those colourful moments that capture what is at the heart of heritage. Seize your moment. See it, snap it, send it.”
