Jersey Heritage is looking for new Trustees to strengthen its board following recent retirements and constitutional changes.
The charity is appealing to people from all walks of life who have an appreciation of and passion for Jersey’s heritage, culture and the arts, an understanding of corporate governance or expertise in a field relevant to the oversight of the affairs of Jersey Heritage.
Chair of the Board of Trustees, Clive Jones, said: “Jersey Heritage is probably a more complex and varied organisation than most people realise. It also has a pretty big budget. Being a Trustee requires an appreciation of the complexity, an ability to understand the resources allocated to parts of the organisation and a willingness to be participate in a body that makes the decisions on how that all fits together.
“Someone with a business background will find they learn a lot about heritage and the preservation of the Island’s memories, whilst someone with more of a fine arts background will also find themselves getting comfortable with governance and planning. There really is something for everyone who takes an interest.”
Jersey Heritage is responsible for caring for, and promoting, the Island’s heritage, an essential part of the fabric of Island life. The role of Trustee is voluntary, with Trustees initially serving a three-year term of office involving six full Board meetings, alternating with six breakfast briefings, during the year.
“We are keen to see candidates who can bring a different background and perspective,” said Clive Jones.
“Whatever skills a new Trustee brings to the table, I think I can guarantee that working with Jersey Heritage will add an additional dimension. It’s an organisation of great variety and of huge value to the Island. It’s a rewarding experience.”
The Jersey Heritage Trust team helps make the Island’s heritage accessible to residents and visitors alike through sensitive custodianship, engaging education and enlightening exhibitions. Its priority is to ensure a balance of skills, knowledge and experience among Board members.
