Following treks to discover the mysteries of the Inca in Peru, explore the magic of the ‘Land of Ice and Fire’- and experience the beauty of the Indian state of Kerala – 2015 offers Islanders the chance to be enchanted by Slovenia.
Slovenia has more than 7,000 km of trekking trails and this challenge will take in the stunning landscapes of the Julian Alps, Triglav National Park and the Soca River, giving participants the opportunity to discover and fall in love with another beautiful country. The diverse offering of Alpine mountains, lakes, rivers, flora and fauna make this the ideal challenge for any true nature lover.
As with the three previous treks, participants have the opportunity to take on a testing personal challenge whilst raising funds for the Jersey Cheshire Home. Previous treks have raised almost £200,000 in support of the home and its residents. Whilst this latest trek will be both a physical and mental challenge for those taking part, the friendships made along the way will more than make up for the effort!
Jersey Cheshire Home has been providing vital support for residents and the wider community of Jersey since January 1983. In addition to the support given to residents, the facilities and services are available for use by the wider disabled community as well as other charities.
The Chairman of Jersey Cheshire Home, Jim Hopley, completed both Trek Iceland in 2011 and last year’s Trek Kerala. He says next year’s trek will be another fabulous opportunity not to be missed for those who like both a challenge and to be able to enjoy nature in all its beauty.
‘Slovenia is a beautiful part of the Europe and the trek will take in the Julian Alps, also known as the “sunny side of the Alps”. Our Treks have seen so many people come together raising funds for a great cause, whilst making life long friendships. We expect this will be the same.’
Trekkers will need to be fit and to undertake training in advance, as they will face both personal and physical challenges. Moreover, as the purpose is to raise funds, trekkers are expected to make a financial contribution. This comprises a non-refundable fee of £300 and a commitment to raise at least £1,500 in sponsorship. This will be in addition to the tour cost, which is expected to be in the region of £1,200 per person.
Jersey Cheshire Home Trek Slovenia is due to take place from 19 to 26 September 2015 and is open to anyone who is over the age of 18 by the date of departure.
For anyone interested in learning more is invited to attend a meeting at the home in Rope Walk next week, on Wednesday 9 April at 6.30 pm.
