Jersey Hospital’s new Managing Director, Helen O’Shea, will be the guest speaker at this month’s IoD lunch when she will explore what the future holds for Jersey’s healthcare system.
At the lunch, to be held at the Grand Jersey on Tuesday 11th February, Helen will discuss Jersey’s healthcare system and highlight some of the key developments she hopes to introduce in her new role. Her talk, ‘A New Hospital – New Opportunities in the Health Sector’, will also debate some of the issues Jersey hospital faces as it strives to deliver superior care to the local community.
Helen is a leading healthcare professional with over 30 years’ experience. She began her career as a nurse, swiftly progressing through to hospital management and, prior to moving to Jersey, worked throughout the UK in a variety of senior roles. In 2010 she moved to Plymouth to become Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer at Derriford Hospital, a 900 bed, £400m, 5,500 staff organisation. The following year she was appointed acting Chief Executive of the hospital, before leaving to take up her current post of Hospital Managing Director in Jersey in January 2013. She holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Health and Social Care Management and an MBA.
Steven Hunt, Chairman of the Jersey IoD Events committee, said:
“I am delighted Helen has agreed to speak at our next IoD lunch so soon after moving to the island. A hugely emotive subject, healthcare is very topical at the moment both on the island and off, and it will be interesting to hear her views and thoughts for the future of the service in Jersey including the new hospital and opportunities in respect of technology and health tourism. Helen’s career has taken her all over the UK and I am sure she will have some fantastic insights in to how Jersey can embrace and benefit from new technologies, services, and facilities that are now available.”
The IoD lunch is on Tuesday 11th February at the Grand Jersey and is open to both members and non-members of the IoD. The lunch starts with networking drinks from 12:00pm and finishes at 14:00. Tickets are £25, inclusive of drinks and a two-course lunch, wine and coffee, and can be purchased from the IoD Branch Officer, Kirsten Higgins on 610799 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
