Jersey's Kids Got Talent

An island wide search is on to find Jersey’s most talented youngsters in a fund raising event inspired by ‘Britain’s Got Talent’.

‘Jersey’s (Kids) Got Talent’ is being organised by Centre Point Trust to celebrate the 30 year anniversary of the charity. It culminates in a grand charity ball for the final five acts at the Hotel de France in October. The act judged the best will win a trip to Disneyland Paris for four people.

Any young performers including singers, dancers, comedians, musicians and acrobats, either individuals or groups, who are keen to perform on stage are welcome to register for the event.

Sponsored by State Street, the talent competition, which is free to enter for young people aged 6 to 16, has been launched to assist Centre Point in raising further funds for its new playground facilities, which is hoping to include a football pitch.

Centre Point employs professionally qualified staff to provide affordable childcare with the aim of supporting working parents, with priority given to single parents and those who would otherwise struggle to meet the full cost of child care. Depending upon individual circumstances, Centre Point offers discounted, subsidised or free places and it works with other agencies when the need for child care provision has been identified.

Jane Moy, chief executive officer for the charity, said:

‘We wanted to do something special for the 30th anniversary year and at the same time continue our fund raising efforts so that we can complete the playground facilities. Many of our young people had already expressed an interest in a competition of this sort and so for us to combine it into a fund raising initiative is ideal.’

First auditions are staged this month and those that are successful will move on the semi-finals later in the summer. Application forms are available online at www.centrepointtrust.co.uk/appform and the deadline for applications is Friday May 16.

Phil McGowan, Head of EMEA Private Equity & Real Estate Fund Services at State Street, added:

‘We have a long standing partnership with Centre Point which is such an important charity and a vital resource for so many hard working parents and we have been pleased to support them previously. So we are delighted to be sponsoring this exciting event in their anniversary year and funding the wonderful first prize.’
