Investing in Jersey Cricket

Standard Bank are again supporting the nurturing of cricket talent in Jersey with the sponsorship of the annual U16 County Cricket Festival in August, and the Coach Education courses in the island.

Chris Minty, Jersey Cricket Board Coaches Association (JCBCA), said: ‘The importance of the Coach Education courses for island cricket cannot be underestimated. Qualified coaches assisting in clubs and with age group cricket squads will be vital to ensure continued success. Last year Standard Bank’s sponsorship also helped enable us to provide cricket coaching courses for young offenders at La Moye as well as at Highlands College, Hautlieu and Victoria College. We truly are investing in the future of cricket in Jersey.’

The 2014 Standard Bank U16 County Cricket Festival will take place from 25th to 29th August and apart from UK county sides it’s hoped the Irish National Under 15 team will also be able to travel to the island to participate.

Claire Reid, Head of marketing and communications at Standard Bank, said: ‘Standard Bank have been investing in local cricket for almost 20 years and this year we are particularly looking forward to an increased emphasis on women’s cricket in the island. It’s hoped that more women will undertake the Coach Education course and there will be a drive to attract more females to this very accessible sport.’
