Improved Timetables for Summer Buses

| April 27, 2012 | 0 Comments

The Minister for Transport and Technical Services is putting forward alterations to bus timetables from 27 May 2012. A number of improvements introduced in October 2011 are being continued, and revisions to a number of routes provide a more consistent, easier to understand timetable to key destinations.

Compared to summer 2011, the following changes are proposed:

• Service 1B renumbered to 2 with extended hours of operation and early morning journeys serving Rue des Pres Trading Estate
• A revised timetable for services 12 and 12A, providing a more consistent frequency on journeys to Portelet, St Brelade’s Bay, Corbiere and St Ouen’s Bay
• Additional peak period departures on services 1, 1A, 8 and 18
• A late evening service on Fridays and Saturdays to St Lawrence, St Mary and St John

Additionally a new service is being proposed for summer 2012, connecting with the Explorer network of bus routes that commenced operation at Easter. Previously announced as Yellow Route, the new service will be known as Route 29 and comprises four journeys per day in each direction linking Durrell and Jersey Pearl in St Ouen. This service replaces the existing Route 26 introduced in March 2011, and allows passengers to cross the Island with only one change of bus, without the need to travel via St Helier.

These changes would ensure that service enhancements introduced with the winter 2011-12 timetable are maintained for summer 2012, and that the bus network continues to evolve in line with the needs of both residents and visitors.

Tristen Dodd, Director of Transport for Transport and Technical Services, said “Passenger numbers have continued to rise over the past year and our aim is to enhance services wherever possible.”

He continued, “The proposed revised timetables are easier to understand and reflect the demand patterns that the bus network experiences during the peak tourist season. We believe that these proposals will be favourably received by passengers, and we want to encourage members of the public to contact the Minister or the Department over the next two weeks with their views on these proposals.”

A full list of changes to bus services was published in the Gazette section of the JEP on Thursday 26 April. A copy of this public notice can be downloaded from the States of Jersey website at www.gov.je along with details of the proposed timetable. Comments are requested before Friday 11 May 2012.
