A bright new bar and eatery has opened on Halkett Street in central St Helier. Hugo’s will offer food throughout the day, as well as a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy a drink and unwind, and a shop where local and imported produce can be bought.
Hugo’s is part of the Liberation Group portfolio of bars and eateries and has been created on the site of the former Dix Neuf. The venue has been closed for nearly two weeks while the refurbishment work has been carried out.
The look and feel is a mix of old and new, with industrial steel work exposed, softened by reclaimed timber features.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be available from Hugo’s Eatery, as well as a ladies’ and gentlemen’s choice of afternoon tea that can be enjoyed inside or on the alfresco terrace, complete with artificial grass, while Hugo’s Bar offers a wide range of drinks including a wide-ranging wine list and award winning ales from Liberation Brewery.
Hugo’s Store will stock a collection of fine chutneys, jams, oils and olives as well as many other products.
Kenrick Brooks, Operations Director for the Liberation Group says “Hugo’s represents a considerable investment for the company. We wanted to create something entirely new, not only for our pubs, bars and eateries but for Jersey. The combination of bar, restaurant and retail area is becoming very popular in the UK and we saw an opportunity to bring that trend to the Island. There has been a regeneration of the Halkett Street area in recent months and Hugo’s is going to contribute to that movement in a big way.”
The new bar and eatery also has a new manager, with Cosmin Luca moving from the Cock and Bottle in the Royal Square. He said: “I am very excited about managing this new venue. I am sure many previous regulars of Dix Neuf will enjoy the improved surroundings and I hope we will see many new customers coming to try our menus at different times of the day, or just unwinding on the terrace with a glass of something refreshing.”
Hugo’s is a family friendly venue, with complimentary Wi-Fi and can cater for up to 60 people inside and 60 al fresco at private functions.
