Heather Bestwick, Deputy CEO and Technical Director of Jersey Finance, recognised in Citywealth’s IFC Power Women 100 List
Heather Bestwick, Deputy CEO and Technical Director of Jersey Finance is featured in Citywealth’s IFC Power Women 100 list, an A-Z list published this week of influencers and professionals working in the financial services industry in International Financial Centres (IFCs).
The list, which celebrates powerful women from diverse backgrounds in government, private wealth, private client advisory and philanthropy across IFCs, recognises women of achievement who are opinion formers, helping to promote business excellence in their home jurisdiction and consolidating the reputations of the financial services industry globally.
Commenting on her recognition in Citywealth’s IFC Power Women 100 list, Heather said:
“It is always good to see the wealth of experience and expertise which women bring to the finance industry world-wide acknowledged, and having Jersey women making up nearly a quarter of the list demonstrates how fortunate we are in having such talent here in the Island.”
Heather has worked in senior roles in the Cayman Islands and Jersey in a 20 year legal and financial services career. As the first female corporate partner at Walkers Global in the Cayman Islands, Heather helped to develop the practice into a multi-jurisdictional practice with 60 partners and offices in London, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore, BVI, Dubai and Jersey. When she joined in 1999, Walkers had seven partners and was represented in only one jurisdiction. In 2007, Heather moved to Jersey to manage the integration of a 50 staff local law firm into the global firm, to become the Walkers Jersey office.
In 2010, Heather joined Jersey Finance where she was again the first female fulfilling the roles of both Technical Director and Deputy CEO, promoting Jersey. Day to day, Heather leads finance industry legislative development; attends and speaks at international conferences and seminars; leads Jersey Finance working groups and participates in media interviews defending and promoting Jersey. She sits on the Channel Islands committee of the Association of Investment Companies (AIC) and is a founder member of the Jersey Maritime International (JMI).
Geoff Cook, CEO, Jersey Finance, commented:
“Heather has made a significant contribution to the development and growth of Jersey Finance, providing colleagues, members and the wider public with valuable insights and expert commentary across all financial sectors, and bringing to the table considerable experience from her previous roles. Heather leads on innovative legislative developments as well as being the voice of reason and sound justification when dealing with the media, and presenting to local, national and international audiences regarding Jersey’s key attributes and services. Her skills and expertise have been, and continue to be, a great asset to both Jersey Finance and Jersey’s finance industry as a whole. We are proud to have Heather as our first woman Deputy CEO and Technical Director.”
